Dhaari exhibition
Celebrating Indian design and aesthetics, Delhi-based store ‘Utsav’ is organising an exhibition of Dhaari sarees, dupattas and fabrics in the City. The Dhaari (or lines and stripes) printed collection employs the line variations in different visually arresting permutations.
The play of Dhaari can be seen in woven sarees, be it the lines that form the ‘pallav’ of a simple Bengal tangail or dhaniakali or the rich borders and ‘pallavs’ of a Kanchipuram cotton or silk, where the "muthu" seer or simple stripe is intrinsic to the style.
Utsav’s Dhaari exhibition showcases varied use of line variations through silk weaves from Arni and Kanchipuram, silk and tussar Ikat weaves from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, and contemporary tussars with line variations from Bhagalpur and Phulia, as well as sarees from Maheshwari and Chanderi.
The show will also feature stripes and dhaaris through the hand-block process in tussar printed dupattas. The exhibition will be held from January 9 to 12 at Ambara, 119 Annaswamy Mudaliar Road, beside Foto Flash, Ulsoor.
