A musical fusion
DHNS
Canadian music artiste Lisa Patterson is performing a collaborative concert in Bangalore at the Alliance Francaise auditorium on January 16 at 7 pm.

With two Top Ten singles in Europe, two albums and three music video releases to her credit, Canadian singer, songwriter, piano and alto saxophone player Lisa Patterson, will be bringing her original songs to an east-west fusion concert to be held at the Alliance Francaise auditorium on January 16. A believer in promoting cultural connection through artistic collaboration, Patterson’s concert will include creative exchanges with Chennai’s well-loved bassist/producer Paul Jacob and select players from Bangalore.

Previous performance

Patterson’s previous performances in India in 2004 included a successful concert at Alliance Francaise in Chennai.
As a result of the concert’s fruitful collaborations, South Indian singer Bonnie Chakraborty was invited to contribute his vocal talents to Patterson’s upcoming album, which was in the final stages of production in Canada. This was made possible by Paul Jacob recording the vocal tracks at his studio Bodhi Muzzik in Chennai and sending to Canada via internet – a true example of technology providing possibility for international music making.

This song ‘Need Each Other’ appeared on Patterson’s album ‘Roam’  and charted strongly as a single in the Netherlands for 12 weeks. The 2008 collaborations are sure to inspire further connections for both recording and international touring.

Lisa Patterson brings the influences of her family heritage and musical training to all her composition and performance work. Raised on west coast of Canada amongst the singing and dancing of Romanian Gypsies on her mother’s side and Scottish Celts on her father’s, Lisa learned about culture fusions from a young age. She studied Royal Conservatory Classical piano from the age of six and took up alto saxohone and flute in high school.

Further training as a Music Performance major at York University in Toronto, Canada included Jazz Composition, Contemporary Improvisation and South Indian vocals and rhythm with maestro Trichy Sankaran.

Multi-tasker

A fulltime multi-tasking music professional, Lisa also operates a music studio in Toronto, Canada where she records albums for other artistes, teaches privately and facilitates songwriting and musicianship workshops for youth.

She performs regularly with award-winning Toronto Playback Theatre as improvising composer and does community outreach through improvised theatre. She has provided soundtrack songs for two feature films and three documentaries.

Ms Patterson has performed in Mexico, Dubai, Europe, the United States and across Canada. Her appearances in India are supported by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
