Agitation to have greater representation for local candidates in the recruitment process is intensifying. However one can understand the predicament of the Rlys. in not being able to put in such a restriction as it will contravene the Constitution. There can be a way out of this. If a condition is put in that the candidates must know well at least one language which is spoken in the zone for which the recruitment is being made, such a restriction may not offend the constitution. The recruitment is for the lowest category and it is reasonable to expect that the person seeking to work in a language area must know that language at least to speak. A person wanting a job in SWR must be able to speak either Telugu or Kannada. Will the Rlys. consider this suggestion which will meet the demand of the agitationists to a great extent?
