After managing a modest total in their first innings, St Joseph’s Indian High School hit back to wrest the initiative against Presidency School, RT Nagar, on the opening day of the two-day under-17 inter-school tournament final for the Boost Cup here on Wednesday.
Batting first, SJIHS mustered an unimpressive 189 for eight in their stipulated 55 overs as Presidency bowlers kept them on a tight leash.
Only Ashish Dhar, who top-scored with 54, could put up some resistance as he saw his team-mates come and go without troubling the bowlers.
There was muhc hopes on in-form L Adarsh. He looked in good touch as well during his stay and promised much more during his stay at the crease. After chipping in a crucial 28 he returned to the hut.
Wasim Baig was the pick of the Presidency bowlers, picking up three for 39.
Md. Muneer and Amogh Varsha claimed two wickets apiece. Presidency batsmen, however, undid the splendid effort of their bowlers, finishing the day on a shaky 114 for six in 37 overs at stumps. Presidency need a further 75 runs to overhaul their rivals’ first innings total. Muneer, who had done well with the ball, was the top-scorer for Presidency with 38. VS Sandeep claimed two for 21 for SJIHS.
