The Karnataka High Court, in association with the Bangalore Mediation Centre (BMC) has arranged a State-wide `Mediation Week’ in February first week, aiming to create awareness.
At an exposition of mediation process organised in Bangaore by the BMC on Wednesday, Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Joseph Cyriac said the President of India Mrs Pratibha Patil will be part of the valedictory function.
Justice Cyriac said that more than disposing the case, the Centre was bringing peace among the litigants through resolution and problem-solving.
On Jan 19, Chief Justice of India Justice H G Balakrishna would participate in the BMC’s first anniversary celebrations, he said.
Though BMC was promoting pre-litigation and outside mediation, there was a need to educate judicial officers over referral cases and also to educate the lawyers on existence of mediation of centre itself, he added.
Earlier, Senior Mediator Mrs Manjula Devi said whenever a case is referred to BMC, the litigants have an option of re-approaching the Court, if they are not satisfied.
The BMC has 60 days time to mediate in an issue and has to submit a report to the Court. Based on the report, the Court delivers an irreversible judgment, she added.
