Here is what’s in store for students who finally make it to the two-year post-graduate programme in management (PGP) at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB).
IIMB has short-listed 1,050 candidates for the group discussion and personal interview stage, following which as many as 260-270 would be inducted to the programme. The course, both rigorous and demanding, deals with conceptual and analytical reasoning, and gives the students an insight into the dynamics of the business environment.
“The programme revolves around the principle that world-class business leaders are not mass-produced; they are nurtured and developed with personalised care and attention, in small work groups and teams, and in a practical, application-oriented user-friendly environment”, says the IIMB introduction to the course.
“It prepares students to manage and lead in global business scenario which is getting increasingly complex and dynamic”, say IIMB professors.
The course material is revised every year to keep it abreast with the current business environment. The second year of the course is basically reserved for electives.
There is a strong emphasis on project work as a part of the regular courses at the Institute. While working on projects, students are required to interact with managers from the industry. A number of these projects are sponsored by various organisations. On an average, a student graduating from the institute would have executed 15 projects, usually live, involving industry interaction and support.
The course lasts six trimester, spread over two years, with a summer project in between the two years.
First year students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of marketing, finance, personnel management and human resources management, quantitative methods, operations and behavioural sciences. During the second year, students specialise in functional areas of their interest.
