Status quo on lecturers’ status
Bangalore, dhns: The High Court on Wednesday ordered that the position of lecturers and professors in Government Dental College, Bangalore as it existed before it was made autonomous, should not be disturbed. Justice H N Nagamohan Das passed an interim order to this effect following petitions by some lecturers and professors of the college.
Litterateur in hospital
Bangalore, dhns: Noted Kannada literateur Vyasaraya Ballal was admitted to a private nursing home here four days ago. Hospital sources said the 85-year-old literateur was recovering and would be discharged in a day or two.
Govt officials in Lokayukta net
Bangalore, dhns: Lokayukta police on Wednesday arrested two government officials for accepting bribe.
T Prakash, junior engineer (West), Bescom, was caught taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from Noorullah Shariff, electrical contractor, J J Nagar for converting an electrical connection of a property belonging to Krishna, a resident of Magadi Road, from Phase I to Phase III.
In another case, Prahlad Pommar, first division assistant, BDA, Vijayanagar was caught accepting Rs 3,000 as bribe from Sujatha, a resident of Manjunatha Nagar, for changing the khata of the house.
‘Arrack on high despite ban’
Bangalore, dhns: Former MLA B R Patil on Wednesday said the sale of banned arrack and illicit liquor is rampant across the State. Addressing reporters here, he alleged that excise department officials are hand-in-glove with bootleggers.
Mr Patil displayed dozens of sachets of illegal arrack and illicit IML bottles he claimed to have seized in Gulbarga district recently.
