Threat calls land duo in police net

A BMTC bus commuter was robbed of her bag containing jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 10,000 in cash on Thursday.

  Hanumanthnagar police arrested two persons on charges of making threat calls to a cinema theatre owner.
The two are: Hanumanthraj (24), parking supervisor at Thirumala Theatre in Madivala, and Raja (21), who transports film reels from Tulsi Theatre to Thirumala Theatre.
Police said Subba Rao, owner of Tulsi Theatre on Marathahalli Main Road, lodged a complaint with the police after he received a call from the duo on January 2 saying they had taken ‘supari’ to kill his son, Anand Rao. Police immediately launched a search and arrested them.
On questioning, they admitted to issuing the threat. They wanted to make quick money following a fight between employees of Tulsi Theatre and locals on the New Year eve. They decided to take advantage of the situation and make threat calls to the owner.
Commuter robbed
A BMTC bus commuter was robbed of her bag containing jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh and Rs 10,000 in cash on Thursday. Police said Mandakini (38) boarded the Kengeri-Kempegowda Nagar bound bus. En route, she realised her bag containing the valuables had gone missing.
Bid to rape teenager
A man tried to rape a teenaged girl at her Maregowdana Doddi residence, in Talghattapura police station limits, on Wednesday. Manchi Gowda (28), a father of two, is said to have tried to rape her when she was alone at her house. When she raised an alarm, neighbours rushed to her rescue. Gowda has been taken into custody.
Businessman waylaid
A gang of four waylaid a businessman at Akshaynagar, and robbed him of his wristwatch and Rs Rs 2,000 in cash at knife-point on Wednesday night. According to Hulimavu police, Srinivasa was on his way home when he was robbed.
Held for theft
The Central police arrested two persons on theft charges and recovered medicines and an autorickshaw worth Rs 2.10 lakh. The two are: Ram Bahadur (27), and Sangram Devavarma (28), both residents of Rajarajeshwarinagar. Police said they had stolen medicine from GSK Distributors.
