The district administration is mulling over recommending the state election commission to drop a total of 28,659 names of voters from the proposed voters list for the first time in the history of Kodagu district.
On the direction of the Election Commissioner, the district administration prepared a draft voters list which was examined under four categories such as the deceased, those who have been transferred, young girls who have left the place after being married off and the plantation workers.
During the examination, it was found that the details of about 28,659 voters were not not available.
Hence the district administration has decided to drop the names of these voters after seeking permission from the election commission.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Akram Pasha said that the examination of the voters list will be held in two phases, from January 11 to 20 and from January 21 to 31.
All those who have attained the age of 18 years as on January 2008 are requested to give details at their respective taluk offices and submit applications to include their names in the list.
The applicants are required to mention their names, father’s name and clear detail on their address. A draft voters list will be released in February in which the applicants can check for their names.
In case their names have not been included in the draft list then they can submit an objection to the Tahshildar on the same day.
Mr Pasha clarified that objections will not be accepted at any cost after the last date for receiving objections.
He urged the electorate to inform the booth level officers who visit homes or to the tahshildar about the names of the voters who have deceased or about those voters who have been transferred to other places.
Mr Pasha informed that the draft voters’ list has 4,13,783 voters of whom 2,07,563 men and 2,06,220 women.
He said that about 7,336 names of the voters, which were left out in the last list have been included this year after the voters whose names were left out submitted a Form No 6.
Mr Pasha informed that this is for the first time that a huge number of over 28,659 names of the voters are being dropped after the voters list was prepared in 1952.
