Smritivana and forest park inaugurated
DH News Service,Kollur:

Renowned musician and play back singer Dr K J Yesudas inaugurated Smritivana and forest park near Anejari near here on Thursday.
Smritivana was established in the year 2002 and was developed as a forest park later. This forest park is run by Eco Development Committee Kollur. The unique project has taken shape in the 10 hectare of land under the theme “Vriksho Rakshathi Rakhshitaha”.
This forest park enables interested public to plant a sapling in the memory of their loved one with the donation of Rs 1000. The contributions will be utilized for the development of the park, according to the authorities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yesudas said forest treasure should be protected for the proper ecological balance. Humans are so selfish that they even don’t give a second thought before cutting off a tree. Trees are like “munis” (seers) and they silently suffer the torture mounted to them by the human beings, he added.
Stressing on the need for the awareness to protect the environment, he said that every one should be cautious about the benefits of planting a sapling whenever they get an opportunity to do so, he appealed.
Delivering the benedictory address, Subramanya mutt Seer Vidya Prasanna Swamiji said that each variety of plants and trees had their unique features and no variety could be considered inferior.
Managing Trustee of Sri Mookambika Temple Krishna Prasad Adyanthaya, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Kundapur division) R K Srivasthav, President of Grama Panchayath Jaya Prakash Shetty and EDC President Dali Dr Srikanth were present.
