Former minister and BJP leader R Ashok has criticised that Congress leaders are threatened by the BJP wave in the State and hence they are giving lame excuses like delimitation of the constituencies and revision of voters list just to postpone elections.
Speaking to reporters on Monday Mr Ashok said the BJP has already appealed for elections to be held in February 2008.
“According to the Constitution, elections should be conducted within 180 days of the dissolution of the assembly. If that does not happen, we will approach the Court,” he said.
Instead of banking on the sympathy wave, BJP will seek votes from people based on the development works it has done in the last 20 months. “People are certainly not happy with the ruling of the Congress and JD(S). So, there is no doubt that BJP will get majority this time around,” Ashok maintained.
Tumkur will witness major reshuffle on the political front as majority of political leaders in the district are joining BJP after January 14. BJP is sure of winning in ten out of the 13 constituencies in the district, he said. BJP leaders B Sureshgowda, S Venkatesh, B M Huchchegowda, K M Timmappa, Taradevi, K K Ramesh, Shashi and K K Ramakrishna were present.
