Low score has schoolgirl on the run
DH News Service, Chandigarh:
Depressed over poor score in class and fearful of parental scolding, 11-year-old Shikha Soni, daughter of a senior CBI officer, ran away from home on Tuesday.

A day later, much to the relief of her parents and the police search teams, she was traced at the home of her maternal uncle at Jaipur, 500 km from here.

Daughter of B L Soni, deputy inspector general (DIG) in the CBI at Chandigarh, Shikha who had reportedly recently seen and was influenced by the movie, Taare Zameen Par disappeared from the home of her tutor on Tuesday evening.

The film is a saga of a child burdened by parental expectations with the latter failing to understand his psyche.
Shikha is a student of class seventh in Carmel Convent school here. Her classmates said on condition of anonymity that she had cajoled others to watch the movie and reportedly said she would ask her parents to watch the Aamir Khan starrer.

She had got four out of 25 marks in her mathematics test, which had reportedly depressed her and inspired her to run away from home.

Soni, who is holding a sensitive post, suspected the worst as he lodged a missing complaint which sent the police in Punjab and Chandigarh in a tizzy.

It was only after a maternal uncle of the girl called up her parents from Jaipur confirming her presence there that everyone involved had a sigh of relief.

Teacher blamed

Soni denied that they had put any mental strain on Shikha for getting poor score in class.
Instead, he blamed the teachers of the school for putting pressure on her by scolding her that she had got low scores even though her father was a senior police officer.

Soni said Shikha had only Rs 10 with her when she ran away. On the other hand, school authorities blamed Shikha's parents for the drastic step taken by their daughter saying she was pressurised by her parents to perform better in studies.
