Fresh snowfall occurred on Wednesday in Kashmir Valley which remained cut off from outside world by road for the third consecutive day.
Entire Kashmir was covered with a white carpet of snow on Wednesday morning.
The snowfall was heavy in upper reaches and light in plain areas. This was the season’s first major snowfall.
Three feet fresh snow was recorded at Afarwath, two feet in Gulmarg and one foot in Tangmarg.
The 300 km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was blocked for the third consecutive day due to the snowfall and landslides. Hundreds of vehicles are stranded on the road.
Bodies recovered
Meanwhile, army recovered bodies of two soldiers who had come under an avalanche at Tikri Post in north Kashmir.
However, six other army men and eight porters are still missing. They are feared dead in the avalanche. Rescue operation continues. Despite the rough weather, the air link between Kashmir and rest of the country was not disrupted. Flights operated as usual.
However, the road link between the border areas of Keran, Karnah and Tanghdhar with the district headquarter Kupwara has snapped.
