OIL, BPCL secure semifinal berths
Oil India Ltd. (OIL) sailed comfortably past Engineers India Ltd, (EIL) 2-0 in the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board football tournament at the Bangalore Football stadium on Thursday.
Bhupen Gogoi scored the opener in the 11th minute, while Marlanki Suting rounded off the tally in the 35th minute.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) beat Indian Oil Corporation-Assam Oil Division (IOC-AOD) 2-0. Santi Majumdar (6th minute) and Mustaq Ahamed (60th) were the scorers. In the semifinals, BPCL will meet ONGC while OIL India will take on CPCL.
Young Muslims down VFC
Young Muslims defeated Vinayaka Football Club 2-0 in the ‘C’ Division football league tie at the Austin Town grounds on Thursday. Leo (15th) and Kamal (45th) scored for the winners.
Suresh pockets fine double
K R Suresh bagged a double in the State police athletic meet at the KSRP grounds in Bangalore on Thursday.
Suresh won the gold in the 1500-metre and the 5000-metre events.
In the women’s section, Sreekala KT of Dakshina Kannada won the 200-metre gold in a time of 29.2 seconds.

SBMJC emerge overall champs
Hosts Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College emerged overall champions in the VIE-08 all-India Sports Fest in Bangalore on Thursday.
SBM won the cricket (men), snooker (men), table tennis (women), tennis (men and women), badminton (men), swimming (men) and basketball (men) titles.

Century Club will conduct a three-star State-ranking badminton tournament from January 26 to 29 at the KBA and Century Club courts.
