Govt panel to study savings, investments
Mumbai, reuters:

The government has formed a panel to review the available data on savings and investment in the economy and to find whether the financial integration is being reflected in the numbers, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Monday.

The panel is being headed by C Rangarajan, Chairman of Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and has RBI Executive Director R B Barman, as its member secretary.

The panel will also examine the feasibility of directly estimating household savings via integrated surveys, find ways to examine savings in the farm sector in relation to investments and suggest improvements in the methods to calculate corporate savings and investments, it said in a statement. The committee is expected to submit its findings within six months.
