Eve-teasing
By G Manjusainath, DH News Service, Bangalore:
The new year celebrations on Brigade Road and MG Road were not so pleasant for some of the women, who were targeted by eve teasers on both the roads, leading to tension for a brief period on Monday night.

Around 10 pm, a sea of humanity descended on to the Brigade Road and MG Road to welcome 2008 in what was a cold Bangalore night. The police had converted these two roads exclusively for the movement of pedestrians with the banning of vehicular traffic. The eve teasers in the crowd harassed some women, particularly foreigners.
Two women from the North-East were tormented by a group of eve teasers on Brigade Road, though the policemen were just 100 metres away from the scene. The eve-teasers chased the women and even hooted at them.

Another group of foreign girls, accompanied by their boyfriends, was also troubled by the eve-teasers when the boys whistled and came really close to them. Hurrying away from the eve-teasers, the group of girls virtually fled the scene. Barring these two incidents, there wasn’t any major law and order problem on these roads, where the revellers had gathered in huge numbers, much ahead of the midnight revelries.
