City welcomes new year with pomp
DH News Service, Tumkur:

As the new year rang in, the entire City welcomed it with great joy. Bidding adieu to the year 2007, people celebrated the arrival of the year 2008 expressing their happiness in various ways - bursting crackers and partying late night.

City’s clubs, pubs and bars were all decked to celebrate the event. People, especially   youths thronged pubs and bars till late night on Monday. Various clubs held special parties.

Parties began early in the evening. While some people preferred to be at home and celebrate the event with their families, many people got down the streets, dancing and wishing happy new year to each other.

No cards
Since this is the age of SMS and phone calls, the sale of greeting cards saw a new low. On the eve of the new year a special cake decoration was made in Arjun bakery on B H Road in Tumkur.

Police were seen busy sending people home who were found celebrating even after 12  am.
