Have you heard of ushering in the New Year with a glass of milk? But if you go by the advice of some social organisations at the Pink City here, the healthiest way to welcome the New Year is indeed with a glass of milk!
In order to give social message to the revellers who think boozing is the only way to celebrate New Year, the Rajasthan Yuva Chhatra Sansthan, the Indian Asthma Care Society and some other social organisations have come up with the milky idea.
While lot of people would usher in the New Year with a glass of their favourite liquor, the social organisations would be sitting at midnight outside the gate of University of Rajasthan to offer a glass of milk to whosoever passes by and say cheers to the New Year 2008.
“The basic aim of floating the idea of offering a glass of milk on New Year eve is to discourage the youth from consuming alcohol. Our experiment was successful last year when we offered 6,000 glasses of milk so we’ve decided to repeat our welcome gesture this year too,” says Dharmpal Choudhury of Rajasthan Yuva Chaatra Sansthan.
The message is loud and clear for the youngsters, he said.
Healthy
Liquor may be quicker and candy may be dandy but it’s healthier to celebrate with milk. We can probably discourage consumption of liquor and beer among youngsters on the New Year eve, the organisers feel. They have a milk producing company offering milk on subsidised rates and they hope the idea will catch up soon.
More people and organisations would join our group as the idea gets popular. People ought to know the consumption of liquor on New Year eve is almost equal to the yearly consumption in the city.
To keep the revellers in good spirit, keep them safe and prevent drunk driving on the roads, a glass of milk sounds the best and most cost effective option.
