Congress to take on Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi, dhns:

The Congress party has decided to hold rallies against Mayawati’s Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) to fight head-on starting this new year. Analysts say the BSP has become a trouble for the Congress in many states in India.

‘Mayawati worse’

“If Mulayam was bad, Mayawati is worse. Her government has not delivered on any front, be it law and order, electricity or farmers’ issues,” All India Mahila Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi said on Monday while announcing the rallies.

Farmers’ issues

The Congress is serious about fighting against the BSP is evident because All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a rally in Bundelkhand region on January 17, and will focus on farmers’ issues.

Rallies will also be held in Mathura on January 20 and in Agra on January 21, mainly focusing on farmers’ problems and compensation to people displaced by the Taj Expressway project.

‘Anti-social’

In the last week of February, Sonia Gandhi will hold rallies across Uttar Pradesh.

“Both are cast players and anti-social (Mulayam and Mayawati). Both have supported the wrong kind of people and contributed to deterioration of the law and order. Both are detached from people’s woes and are power-hungry,” Bahuguna Joshi said. Joshi also said the Mayawati-led government was insensitive to farmers. “What is the point of asking for more money when Rs 15,000 crore given by the Centre is lying unused?” Joshi asked.
