Delimitation: Kodagu may have only 2 constituencies
DH News Service,Madikeri:

The State will be facing a by-elections soon and the sword of constituency delimitation is hanging over Kodagu district. If the notification is released before the elections then the district may have to be satisfied with just two constituencies.
Kodagu district might seem to be socially and economically strong but it has failed to safeguard its own interest politically. Kodagu district which has one or the other lacuna in every field has reached the position of loosing on one whole constituency of the three constituencies in wake of the proposed delimitation of constituency.
Constituency Delimitation Commission headed by Kuldeep Singh has delimited the constituency on the basis of population and in Kodagu district one constituency has been cut down and the number of constituencies has been limited to only two as the population of the district is 5,48,561 in all the three constituencies together.
Due to this, the district will lose Somwarpete constituency but the number of taluks will continue to be three.
The Cental Government has approved the final report of the Constituency delimitation Commission and is waiting for the President’s signature.
While the heat of election is rising across the State, an unstable situation has been created in the district due to the delimitation and has also brought about political uncertainty among the politicians. The delimitation is acting as an obstacle for the politicians who were all set to go ahead for election preparation identifying themselves from their respective constituencies. They are now left in a confused state, unable to decide upon their next step.
There has been a fierce competition among the politicians for tickets even when there were three constituencies. With one constituency being cut down, the race for ticket is only expected to get more intense as the politicians have been left without shelter.
Commenting on the issue, former minister M C Nanaiah said that the politicians should have raised voice for the sake of Kodagu district earlier as any hue and cry now will serve no purpose.
He opined that Kodagu district has come to this situation due to the failure of the politicians of the district.
With one whole constituency being cut down, the people are now worried that the amount of funds flowing into the district too will reduce drastically.
