Woven dreams
Bringing to Bangalore the weaving tradition of Varanasi is the Vermilion House. Be it plain, or heavy thread work, the sarees have a traditional yet contemporary feel. Neelambri from Varanasi has sarees, dress materials and dupattas to suit everyone’s taste.
If you want to make fashion statement with silk, then you could add the ‘khimkhwab’ to your wardrobe. This saree with comes with multi-coloured woven brocade and pure zari. However, if you are partial to cotton, then you could go in for ‘Neelambri’ (blue), ‘Pitambari’ (yellow), ‘Raktambari’ (red), or the ‘Shwetambari’ (white) range.
The jamdhani designs only make the sarees look more elegant. Neelambri’s other experiments with cotton are also exclusive. The sarees with ‘Ganga-Jamuna’ and ‘Lehariya’ designs also make for good picks. Georgette, chiffon, tissue, net and jute sarees are also on sale. Neeraj of Neelambri said that through his collection, he aims to revive old designs and keep alive the woven tradition, at a time when western outfits are gaining popularity.
Neelambri has on display nearly 300 sarees that come in pastel, bright and light shades. The collection is priced anywhere between Rs 1,900- Rs 48,000. The expo is open on Saturday between 10.30 am and 7 pm.
