Disclosing this to Deccan Herald after calling on cabinet secretary K M Chandrashekar and TKA Nair, principal secretary to prime minister, Karnataka advisor to Governor Krishna Kumar said the two senior officials have assured him that the Centre would completely restore the State’s share of 290 MW shortly.
The Centre had reduced the State’s share from the ‘unallocated’ share of the Central grid by about 150 MW per day from the quota of 290 MW to divert the same to Tamil Nadu which urgently needed power. From Andhra Pradesh too, power was diverted to TN.
After discussing the issue with the two senior officials, the Centre has now agreed to address the problem immediately, Krishna Kumar said. He added that Karnataka too was facing power shortage although it was not too alarming, thanks to the good monsoon last year. In some rural areas, however, power shut down was close to eight hour load shedding, he added.
Karnataka generates about 8000 MW per day but the demand is many times more.
