Cherie Blair, a lawyer and wife of former British prime minister Tony Blair, on Friday expressed solidarity with the cause of widows and their children, advocating urgent steps for providing them necessary support.
“Widows and their children are entitled for human dignity. It is not just a huge physical challenge across the world but it is also an issue which has been overlooked for decades,” Blair said.
She was speaking here at a function organised by Priyadarshini Academy to honour her NGO Loomda Trust.
Explaining the anomalies of bereaved women, she said, “it does not matter where you live or which strata of society you belong to, being a widow is never an easy thing. Many who have lost their life partners find their lives has changed- for the worst. It is particularly felt when they are left to bring up their children all alone,” she said.
