Public will be inconvenienced if essential services like autos call for a strike. One can understand their demand to increase the fare, in view of increased fuel and living costs. Demanding a minimum fare of Rs. 20 and raising it from Rs. 12-00 is not at all logical and the same is the comment on fare per kilometre they are demanding. May be a minimum fare of Rs. 15 is reasonable.
But, these unions should take into consideration, the highhandedness of their members, who refuse to ply to certain destinations that the passengers request for. The other day, at 6.00 p.m. I must have asked at least 25 autos on BVK Iyengar road to take me to Double Road, Shanthinagar, and they refused to oblige.
This is the common story everywhere in Bangalore. Who is answerable to this? Will the Autorikshaw drivers union, who called for a strike on 11th, find a solution to this?
