Riding on splendid bowling efforts from BS Karthikeyan and KN Bharat in the first and second innings respectively, Karnataka coasted to a thumping innings and 10-run win over Kerala on the final day of their South Zone inter-state under-13 cricket tournament at the RSI ground here on Friday.
With this victory, Karnataka bagged six points including a bonus while Kerala drew a blank.
Resuming at their overnight score of 293 for six, Kerala, in pursuit of Karnataka’s formidable 507 for four declared, could add a mere 25 runs before they were all out for 318 in 85.4 overs. Karthikeyan returned impressive figures of eight for 98. Forced to follow-on, Kerala, needing a further 189 runs to make Karnataka bat again, fared far worse as KN Bharat ran through the visitors’ line-up on a wearing track. The off-spinner claimed six for 41 as Kerala were bundled out for a measly 179.
Sanju V Samson stood tall amidst the ruins with a fighting 88 in the second.
