Delay in announcement of quota for ULB heads
BJP threatens to stage protest from next week
DH News Service, Mangalore:

Bharatiya Janatha Party will launch an indefinite strike in front of the city corporation from the next week, if reservation will not be announced for the posts of the heads of urban local bodies, said BJP district president K Monappa Bhandary.

Addressing news persons here on Friday, he said the BJP had decided to openly express its disappointment over the political situation in the State by coming on streets. Though the party had secured clear majority, it could not lead the ULBs due to political plots, and the time has come to put out its anger in its own way, he said.

Owing to the pressure of the Congress leaders, the Governor is not announcing the reservation list. The Congress men have made the Raj Bhavan their own office, he criticised.

The parties are not in a position to lead the local bodies despite their majority as the reservation is not yet announced.

The situation has created such an imbroglio that no developmental works are being done across the State. DK district is going to face water crisis.

Roads are miserable. Even the pothole filling act has not been done religiously, Mr Bhanday said.

Bureaucrats are dominating the administrative sector. People are taunting at the elected representatives. If Congress men have real concern about the poor, they might not have tried to postpone the announcement of reservation of ULB heads. Instead, they might have pressed the governor for the announcement, he added. He urged that the governor should take immediate measures to announce the list in order to give importance to the infrastructure development and progress of the State as a whole. He added that if it was delayed, the BJP would launch severe  protests across  the State.

WATER SUPPLY CONTRACT

BJP district spokesperson and MCC former opposition leader Shankar Bhat has alleged that the contract of water supply in the city is being assigned to a Chennai-based private agency, in a silent manner.

As there is no elected body in the MCC, the Deputy Commissioner is performing the role of the administrator. But during his rule, the water charge has been doubled while self-declaration of property tax has also come into force. This is a blow on the common men, he criticised.

Attempts are being made to assign the contract of water supply to the Chennai-based company, which has got a smaller contract in Belgaum already, he stated.

“Though the Yeddyurappa Government had sanctioned Rs 40 crore for a new vented dam at Thumbe, Congress leader Veerappa Moily is trying to reduce it to Rs 20 crore as per the reliable sources,” Mr Bhat said.
