Sir, This is regarding the controversy over nominations for Bharat Ratna award.
Our first President Dr Rajendra Prasad established India's highest civilian award for highest degrees of national service. But our politicians are making this more of a prestige issue. The manner in which the political parties are ensuring that their leaders, who are usually former Prime Ministers/Chief Ministers are conferred with Bharat Ratna is setting a bad trend.
The award selection commitee should not include any politician.
It must comprise of eminent personalities from different fields like literary, science, service etc.
The government can consider people like social worker Baba Amte, Grand Master Vishwanath Anand, Kiran Bedi, Shivakumara Swamiji of Siddaganga matt, Medha Patkar, so on for this honour.
