Former chief minister M Veerappa Moily on Saturday said that great epic Ramayana has influenced him in preparing his report as chairman of Central Administrative Reforms Commission.
The mode of administration of Sugreeva, a character in the Ramayana, has helped him in recommending reforms in civil services. Similarly Rama’s way ruling has many suggestions to bring in a corruption-free administration, he said.
He was speaking after being felicitated at a function organised in Bangalore on the occasion of his 68th birth anniversary. Moily said his commission will submit a report on combating terrorism in the country within next 20 months.
“Many characters of Ramayana have influenced me in preparing the report. When Rama was in forest for 14 years, his state was ruled by none other than the common people of the land. In other words it was people’s rule - democracy. My study of many Ramayanas to write Sriramayana Mahanweshanam helped me understanding what is needed to create society without corruption, crime and violence”, he said.
Translation Academy chairman Dr Pradhan Gurudutt said Veerappa Moily’s Sriramayana Mahanweshanam, is a people’s epic. “The language used and thoughts presented by Moily in his epic are well received by common readers. Writers of other languages have shown interest to translate this into other languages. Soon the epic will be available for readers across the globe,” Dr Pradhan Gurudutt said.
No lobbying
Speaking to presspersons, Moily said that he took the name of CPI (M) leader Jyothi Basu for the Bharata Ratna only as a reaction to the BJP’s demand for Bharata Ratna to former prime minister A B Vajpayee.
“I just wanted to convey the message to the BJP that the Congress does not want to lobby for the prestigious award,” he said.
