More people should come under the health insurance scheme so that they have access to quality health care, said Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Hrudalaya.
In his valedictory address at ‘Innovation’ — the second annual national conference on healthcare leadership, in Bangalore on Saturday, he said, quality medical health care should be made widely accessible to people.
He rued the fact that less number of rural youth are enrolled in medical courses, because of cost factor.
“Children from affluent families, become doctors but they don’t take up tough specialities like cardiac surgery or neuro surgery because these are extremely demanding fields,” he said.
Chief guest Dr D Nagaraj, director, Nimhans stressed on the importance of quality administrators graduating from reputed colleges and the difference they can make to hospital administration in government and corporate hospitals.
Dr B K Rao, chairman, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, spoke on improving patient in-flow in hospitals and Dr S V Joga Rao of National Law School of India University, spoke on hospital accreditation and its legal implication.
