In all areas of life startling events have become commonplace. At times euphoric, at times insecure, we find it difficult to assimilate so many new developments. Most would agree, however, that our experiences of the past do not provide sufficient guidance for the present, let alone the future.
But just how do we begin to change our world – to cast it in a new form, more suited to the needs of our time? When will we realise that there is one thing and only thing which will unfailingly and alone lift us out of the present-day quagmire of chaos and confusion to the broad uplands of knowledge and certitude? There is a constant interplay between the forces of light and the forces of darkness like the sun and the shadow.
If one chooses to stand in the light of the sun his shadow side is unavoidably going to be revealed. One is reminded that in this world, sun and shadow dwell ever together. “The tumult of this age of transition is characteristic of the impetuosity and irrational instincts of youth, its follies, its prodigality, its pride, its self-assurance, its rebelliousness, and contempt of discipline.”
“There is not one soul whose conscience does not testify that in this day there is no more important matter in the world than that of Universal Peace,” Bahá’ís believe. Consciously or unconsciously individuals and nations are reacting to the paradigmatic change that is impregnating our society with values commensurate with humankind’s increasing maturity and the forces influencing the global market to which we all subscribe.
As the most recent of the independent world religions, the Bahá’í Faith offers principles and ideas that appeal to the contemporary mind and establish a framework for fruitful action.
The principle of the oneness of humankind and laying the foundation of justice is at the heart of all the activities of the worldwide Bahá’í community.
The changes now taking place imply an organic transformation of present-day society, a change such as the world has not yet experienced.
It is in this backdrop our society should march forward with faith and hope to accelerate the process of positive change. It is to the solution of the basic problem of humankind that the greater part of all our energy and resources should be directed.
