Pune law colleges sweep moot court contest awards
DH News Service, Mangalore:

ILS Law College, Pune, bagged the first place in IV National Moot Court competition held at SDM Law College here on Sunday. Balaji Law College, Pune, bagged the runners up trophy at the competition. The first place carries a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy and the runners up carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy.

The Best Memorial (preliminary) was won by Government Law College, Madurai, while Best Memorial quarter finals was won by ILS College, Pune. Best Gentleman Advocate was won by Mr Arvinda Sharma of Sharada Vilas Law College and Best Lady Advocate was won by Priyadarshini Shetty of Government Law College, Mumbai.

Delivering the valedictory address, Kerala High Court Judge Justice Antony Dominic said “to improve the quality of lawyering, there was a need for reforms in legal education. Though several steps have been taken in this direction, still a lot remains to be done.”

With the advent of globalisation, scientific and technological developments taking place, the opportunities for the legal professionals have increased.

The challenges of the developments can be met only if there are sufficient law colleges which are well equipped both with materials for learning and men of learning. He called upon the law graduates to be dedicated to the profession, devoted to client, fair to opponent, honest in approach and pleasing in manner.

Karnataka High Court Judge Justice Mohan Shanthana Goudar was present.

3 H’s

Inaugurating the 4th All India Moot Court competition on Saturday, Karnataka High Court Judge Justice Mohan Shanthana Goudar set before the law students a formula of 3 ‘H’s- honesty, hardwork and humility- for success.

He also advised the students not to lose their temper at any time. “Prepare for the cases very well and read the necessary papers properly,” he said.

Stating that the law students are an integral part of the basic structure of judiciary and that it is their duty too to introspect what is wrong with the judicial system, Justice Goudar urged the budding lawyers to always keep in mind the two main slogans against judiciary- justice delayed and justice denied- so that they can prevent it from being raised again.  Justice Antony Dominic, released the ‘SDM law news,’ a bulletin of the activities in the college.
