Delhi eves retain title
Delhi University outplayed Bangalore University 2-0 in the finals to retain the title in the all-India inter-University women’s tennis tournament at the Mangalore University tennis courts on Sunday, reports DHNS from Mangalore.
Sanaa Bhambri overcame a fighting Asha Nandakumar 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the first singles final, while Parul Goswami eased out Akshita Basavarj 6-0, 6-1 to complete the rout. Delhi

Rogers included as cover
Chris Rogers was added as cover for injured opener Matthew Hayden in the 12-man Australian squad for the third Test against India starting here on January 16, reports PTI from Perth.
Rogers was expected to be called up after he scored a well-compiled 60 for ACT XI in the tour game against India. “The National Selection Panel confirmed opening batsman Chris Rogers has been added to the squad of 12 for the third Test versus India as a ‘shadow player’ for Matthew Hayden. Rogers will train with the squad from tomorrow,” a Cricket Australia statement said on Sunday.
India ODI squad on Jan 20
The Indian squad for the one-day tri-series in Australia commencing on February 3 as well as for the one-off Twenty20 International against the hosts scheduled on February 1 will be picked in Mumbai on January 20, reports PTI from Mumbai.
“The squad is to be picked on January 20 in Mumbai,” BCCI’s chief Administrative Officer Prof Ratnakar Shetty said. Only three out of five selectors, including chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar, would be physically present in Mumbai to pick the squad while two other members of the committee Venkatapathy Raju and Ranjib Biswal would be in Australia.
Chopra climbs to tied 26th
Daniel Chopra slotted four birdies over six holes to return a card of two-under 68 and lift himself to tied 26th after the penultimate round of the Sony Open here, reports PTI from Honolulu.
The Indian-born Swede, after rounds of 66, 71 and 68 aggregates five-under 205 to share the 26th slot with three others.
Korean KJ Choi, meanwhile, is eyeing a wire-to-wire win after firing a four-under 66 to open up a four-shot lead over second-placed Kiwi rookie Tim Wilkinson, who carded a sizzling eight-under 62 to total 199.
Samuels reported for suspect action
The ICC on Sunday confirmed that West Indies off-spinner Marlon Samuels has been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action on one particular delivery by the match officials following completion of the third Test between South Africa and the West Indies in Durban on Saturday, reports agencies from Dubai.
The report was made by on-field umpires Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar, and third umpire Brian Jerling. Match Referee Roshan Mahanama has informed both the ICC and the West Indies team management of the report.
“Concerns have been raised by the match officials over the legality of Marlon’s bowling action with particular reference to his ‘fast ball’ when viewed with the naked eye,” said Mahanama.
