The incident took place at Havala village when the boy Bharat had gone for grazing buffalos along with his grandmother Nanjamma. A tussle began between two buffalos and Bharat ran near them to save his buffalo from any possible injuries.

Enraged by this the other buffalo pierced Bharat with its horns. The boy fell down. Continuing its attack the buffalo stepped on his chest and stomach repeatedly attacked him. He  was critically injured and rushed to Turuvekere hospital for treatment. Later he was shifted to Bangalore for further treatment. However, the boy died as the injury was very deep and had affected his kidneys. Bharat was the only son of his divorcee mother Bhagyamma.
