Anthurium crop requires huge investments for ensuring returns, said progressive farmer G N Prasannakumar.
Speaking at the information camp on facilities that can be availed from horticulture crops and Horticulture Board organised at Koppa Syndicate Bank auditorium on Thursday, he said anthurium crop requires an investment of atleast Rs 8 lakh and the timely delivery of 5,000 Anthuriums to markets in Bangalore must also be ensured.
Climate
The temperature must be 15 to 20 degree for flowering. Sunlight upto be 70 to 80 per cent must be provided and 75 per cent shade is also required. Appropriate nets and pure water is also necessary. Usually, Anthurium plants are grown on coconut husk which helps proper supply of water and air.
Manure must be supplied at the right time along with water. The plant selected must be of good quality and it takes atleast a year to grow. To yield returns, it takes atleast three years, he informed.
Camp in Sringeri
Bank Divisional Manager K U Shanubhag, speaking after inaugurating the camp said, a camp will be organised a Sringeri on March 15 to provide information on yellow leaf disease and ways to check the disease.
Bank has credited farm loans upto Rs 9 crore and until now Rs 150 lakh has been lent as farm loans in Mangalore division, he added. Bank Senior Manager H K Suresh, Horticulture Department deputy director Thotaiah, Chief Manager Jayachandran, Manager Rama Naik and Pavan Kumar were present on the occasion.
