Plea to close 'death canal'
DH News Service, Tarikere:

Public have urged the administrative authorities to close an unused well located in the thickly populated Shetty Compound near the KSRTC bus stand here.

The place is a centre of hectic business, filled with hotels, garages, shops, wine shops and similar establishments. Thousands of people visit the place for various reasons. But the nearby open well does not provide any measures of protection. Children usually play in a ground adjacent to this well, inviting a lot of danger.

Much before the incident of the death of a person faded away from the mind of the public, another individual has fallen into the well and died just two days back.

The place does not get proper light during night. Hence, possibilities of people falling into the well is more pertinent. A large amount of plastic has also accumulated in the well.

Though some attempts were made to close down the well a few months ago, they went silent all of a sudden. If people think the old well should be retained, there should be some measures to lay a wall around it, at least, according to the public.
