The revision of the electoral rolls is currently in progress across the district. In these rolls 1.55 lakh voters have been recognised and will be removed from the list. This announcement was made by the District Deputy Commissioner S R Uma Shankar.
Addressing a press conference the DC said that the 41,151 new names have been added to the list including those who have come in from outside and those who have just come of age.
Among those who will removed from the list include 51,686 who have died along with those who have been transferred. The total number of people who have been taken off the rolls include 51,686.
According to the 2001 census there were 25.58 lakh people in the district and that number is estimated to have risen to 28.78 lakh in 2008.
So far there are 21.43 lakh voters on the list. If one tracks it against the population of the area then the ratio is about 75.5 per cent, but this figure was brought down to 70.50 after the first phase of revision.
However the Election Commission has estimated that there about 60 to 65 of the population is about 18 years and there the number of the voters’s list is expected to come down even further.
The first phase of revision will begin on the 11th of January till the 19 of January where the election officials will visit the houses to ascertain the number of voters.
The second phase will begin on the 22nd of January till the 30th and the gathered information will be given to the 31 of January. The voter card holders list is expected to be released on February 7. Fifteen days will be given to register objections about the list. The final voters list is expected to come out March 7th.
It was also found that the number of voters exceeded the ratio of the population in Kunigal, Huliyurudurga, Gubbi, Tiptur and Madhugiri and therefore the second phase will pay more attention to this.
To rectify this discrepancy in the list Revenue officials from a different taluk will undertake the second phase revision in Kunigal and Huliyur Durga. According to one estimate about 45 thousand people should be removed from the list.
