Fall in prices worries ryots
DH News Service, Pavagada:

As many as Rs 150 crore worth groundnuts have been grown in Pavagada  taluk in the year 2006-07 in an area of more than 60,815 acre, as per the reports from the Agricultural department.

For one hectare, 11.25 quintal yield of groundnut has been expected, out of the total production of 68.42 quintals. Per quintal groundnut in Pavagada market,  costs Rs 1200, it has been  calculated.

No glitter

Though groundnuts have been grown here massively, there is no glitter in the eyes if the farmers in this region, as they have seen this crop brought in a great loss over the years and very less profit. The crop at last leaves us, nothing more than a bad debt, they say with disappointment.

In spite of the loss that is expected, many banks, co-operative associations and private organisations have been involved in forcing th farmers to repay the loans, the farmers of the taluk alleged.
