In an unprecedented move that has sent shock waves among the powerful IPS lobby in Maharashtra, the state government has recommended to the Centre, sacking of four '50 plus' IPS officers for their alleged poor performance. Four more officers are under scanner and may be axed in near future.
According to official sources here, the deputy chief minister R R Patil, who is the head of the home department, decided to review the performance of IPS officers, aged above 50 years, and take necessary action based on the reviews. His logic is that if a constable can be sacked for non-performance, then why not an IPS officer. The four officers whose files have been sent to the Centre are - Karl D'Souza (1974 batch), C Prabhakar (1977), M W Chitale (1980) and S S Ahire (1996).
