Slaughterhouses to be moved

A report filed on behalf of the State Government and BBMP before the High Court on Wednesday, said that construction of A modern mechanised abattoir at Iglur, on outskirts of Bangalore city, would be completed within 15 months.

The statement was filed in the course of a 1997 PIL filed by a city resident Krishna Bhat wherein the Court has directed authorities to shift slaughterhouses located inside the City to the outskirts.

Iran honour for CNR Rao

Professor C N R Rao, National Research Professor and honorary president of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore has been elected Distinguished Research Professor of Materials by the University of Cambridge.

Official trapped by Lokayukta

An assistant horticulture officer in Kanakapura taluk was trapped by the Lokayukta. Krishnaiah, the official, was trapped while he was accepting Rs 2,000 as bribe from Ramachandraiah, an agriculturist from Kanakapura.

According to a release, the government official demanded Rs 4,000 for releasing the subsidy cheque of Rs 8,400.

Japanese film screening

Bangalore International Centre in collaboration with International Music and Arts Society is conducting an unique event ‘Screening of Opera Film set in Japan in the 19th Century.’

The film will be screened on January 18 at the Bangalore International Centre auditorium, TERI Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II stage, at 6 pm.

Film fest: Curtain raiser

The two-day curtain raiser for the third edition of ViBGYOR International Film Festival for Short and Documentary films (to be held in Kerala) will take place in Bangalore on January 18 and 19.

A mix of national and international short and documentary films from the ViBGYOR film package will be screened.

The five-day annual film festival with the theme ‘celebrating identities and diversity’ is scheduled to be held in Thrissur, Kerala, from February 13 to 17. Admission to the film fest  is free.
