Professors from Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business are visiting India during the week of January 22-26 to encourage high school students to get their undergraduate education at OSU, a top-ranked American comprehensive university. OSU is already the choice of thousands of postgraduate students from India.
This initiative is to extend the same welcome to students preparing for their undergraduate admission.
Specifically, OSU professors are going to introduce their Management Information Systems major. “The MIS degree prepares students for technical as well as managerial careers in information technology,” says OSU Regents Professor Ramesh Sharda who heads the Institute for Research in Information Systems in the Spears School. “The 4-year degree is somewhat similar to BCA/MCA degrees offered in India, with a stronger emphasis in technical skills such as database management, systems analysis and design, data mining, and enterprise systems,” adds Sharda.
OSU is inviting high school students, their parents, and consultants to join them on January 23 at 6 pm in Bangalore at Hotel Monarch, Brigade Road, or on January 26 at 1 pm in Hyderabad at Hotel Novotel. Sharda and Dr Mark Weiser, associate dean of the Spears School will be on hand to answer students’ questions along with Dr Nik Dalal, a professor of MIS from OSU who is in Bangalore for this year. They will also be joined by Mr Brandon Wulz, an OSU/MIS alum who is in Hyderabad currently on assignment at the local Deloitte & Touche office.
OSU has been recognised as one of America's Best College Buys in the annual US News & World Report rankings.
The Princeton Review has also named OSU as one of the best higher educational institutions in the western United States. Spears School of Business is AACSB accredited.
Stillwater, OSU’s hometown, has been ranked one of the lowest cost college towns in the US. Students are allowed to work on campus to defray some of these costs. Merit-based financial aid may also be available to selected students. The total cost of attendance at OSU may be about the same as that of a private college in India.
