New training programmes in fashion and apparel technology

Government of India, Ministry of Textile, Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner and Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) have entered into a MoU to jointly conduct the following New Post Graduate Diploma/ Advance /Diploma training programmes in

1. Fashion Designing and Boutique Management

Scope: This Unique programme is devised to provide both practical and theoretical inputs, on both fashion designing aspects as well as business development aspects. Employment opportunities exist in Boutiques, Garment factories, Buying Houses, Retail Chains, Design Studios, besides Freelancing for Celebrities, Movies, Theatre or by setting up one’s own Boutique

2. Apparel Manufacturing and Merchandising

Scope: This programme will enable the students to gain technical and managerial skills required to pursue highly rewarding and remunerative careers in the Apparel Industry in the executive level in the domains of production, quality, merchandising etc.

Sunday Only-Weekend Programme for persons working in the Garment and Textile Industry

3. Garment Manufacturing and Merchandising

Scope: This course is ideal for professionals working in Fashion/ Textile/ Accessories/ Garment Industry or allied sectors who would like to upgrade their skills and equip themselves with a technical and professional knowledge.

HP announces dual degree programme

HP in India recently signed an MoU with State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY) and Amrita University, Coimbatore, India for a dual degree programme for selected employees of HP in India. The two year programme will provide the selected employees at HP a new avenue to continue their education while working at any of HP's campuses in India.

The course will focus on imparting skills in management, Information systems and business functions. At the end of this programme, the participants will receive an MS in the Management of IT Enabled Services from SUNY and a MS in Management of Information Systems from Amrita University.

TB Health Visitors course

A nine months TB Health Visitors Course commencing from July 1, 2008 will be organised by the Tuberculosis Association of India at the New Delhi TB Centre, New Delhi. The minimum qualification for admission to this course is 10+2 with science (Biology group). Maximum age limit should be 28 years as on July 1, 2008. Relaxation of age for candidates working in Govt. institutions may however be permitted by the Selection Committee. The decision of the Selection Committee would be final in this regard and related matters. This course does not give any guarantee for job. Application for admission to this course should reach the Secretary General, Tuberculosis Association of India, 3, Red Cross Road, New Delhi-110 001 on or before April 30, 2008, on the prescribed form which can be had from this office. Application received after April 30, 2008 will not be considered.

Diploma for youths with disabilities

Applications are invited from candidates who have passed/failed SSLC, One Year Advanced Diploma in Computer Applications for Youths with disabilities. Admission for the course ends on January 19, 2008. First preference will be given to persons with disability and speech and hearing candidates. (Hurry limited seats.) NIS Academy launches new courses

The NIS Academy announced the launch of two new certificate courses: Retail Act  and Retail Lead, recently. Buoyed by the phenomenal growth of the retail industry, and the need for a workforce that is energetic, skilled and ready to take on the retail revolution, the NIS Academy has designed and developed Retail Act, a Certificate course in Front Line Sales (3 months) and Retail Lead, a Certificate course in Retail Floor Supervision (6 months).

The two courses together are expected to generate over 5,000 skilled and groomed retail professionals for the shop floor level, in a year. The courses will be offered at over 28 cities in the country, where the NIS Academy centres are located.

A unique SCALE methodology has been used in designing the 3-tiered programmes. Each programme ensures a holistic approach by equipping the candidates with skills related to domain and personal effectiveness. The programmes have been conceptualised by the NIS Academy based on market research, trends in the industry and understanding the role profile requirement, in the Retail environment.

Retail Act

This career oriented module will brighten the individual’s career prospects in retail by making them skilled sales and customer care personnel. The programme will develop aspirants as a skilled Frontline Sales Executive and Customer Care Associate.

Retail Act is a 3-month Certificate Programme, comprising of 2-months classroom and 1-month internship/ On-the-job Project work. The modules of the programme include domain skills, such as: an Understanding of the Present Retail Scenario in India and Modern Retail Formats; Effective Selling Skills, Customer Care and Service; Daily Store Ops SOP’s; Merchandise Knowledge and In-store Marketing and Promotions; and skills in Personal Effectiveness including Personal Grooming; Hygiene, Attitude and Behaviour; Communication and Inter-personal Skills.

The entry profile for candidates desiring to enroll for RETAIL Act is 10+2/ graduates in any discipline, and Basic English speaking skills.

Retail Lead

This unique programme will build the individual’s supervisory skills and make them effective Retail professionals.

It will prime aspirants for the roles of Store Managers, Floor Supervisors and Team Leaders.

The 6-month Retail Lead programme is aimed at developing professionals who will manage stores for efficient operations; supervise teams; sell effectively in a retail environment; and, manage customer relations and in-store promotions.

The entry profile for candidates desiring to enroll for Retail Lead is graduates in any discipline; with 1-2 years work experience, preferred; and, Basic English speaking skills.
