Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, he said crops grown in 32 villages in Oorubage, Hanthooru, Thripura Gram Panchayat limits have been destroyed owing to heavy rainfall. DC has failed to hand over compensation of Rs 6,000 per acre to the growers.
In Kasaba hobli, 1,302 hectare coffee, 2021 hectare coffee in Gonibeedu, 1,186 hectar in Kalasa and Baloor have been destroyed. DC office will be picketed on January 18, he added.
Though the government has ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 6,000 per acre land as per the report of the Deputy Divisional officer, DC has not come forward to pay the compensation. Rs 4.50 lakh has been released by the Centre to pay the compensation.
But none of the applications have been disposed off till now, he added. DC should change the timings of listening to the grievances of the people. Growers should be allowed to cut the trees grown in the estate.
