A district-level wrestling contest will be organised under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada district Wrestling Association to commemorate freedom fighter and former MLA M Lokaiah Shetty on his fifth death anniversary at Karavali Utsav ground on January 21, informed Prakash Kadri.

Speaking at a press meet organised on Tuesday, he said the contest will be held for 35 kg (for those aged within 17 years), 45 kg, 55 kg, 65 kg and 75 kg. Over 150 contestants are expected to participate from DK district. The contestants will be weighed at Mangala Stadium on January 20 from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. International rules of wrestling will be followed and from each wrestling centre, only two participants will be allowed to compete, he added.

Shree Devi Education Trust President A Sadanand Shetty will preside, while Mohideen from Worldwide Shipping Inc, G Manju from Ashwini Enterprises and Builders and DK district Wrestling Association advisor Sanjeev Shetty will be present. At the valedictory function, DK Zilla Panchayat President Sucharita Shetty will preside, while DK district SP N Satish Kumar will distribute the prizes. Fr Muller Charitable Trust Administrator Rev Fr Dennis D’Sa, advocate Nagaranarayana Shetty and State Bank of India Marketing Executive Yatish Baikampady will participate, he informed.
