In a meeting presided over by Dy Commissioner G Ramachandra, pro-Kannada organisations and theatre owners agreed upon releasing other language movies in the theatres of Kolar district after two weeks of their release in their respective states.
It can be recalled that Telugu movie Okkamagadu was released at Bhavani theatre in Kolar on last Friday, the same day of its release in Andhrapradesh. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and other pro-Kannada organisations had protested against this. Following this, the screening of the movie was cancelled for two days.
A series of protests took place in the City after this, and when situation went out of control, the Dy Commissioner G Ramachandra and Superintendent of Police B Dayananda decided to call a meeting. The meeting was successful in sorting out the difference of opinion between theatre owners and Kannada organisations.
Decisions
As per the decisions taken in the meeting, other language movies should be released two weeks after their release in their home states. In the month of November Kannada movies should be compulsorily shown in all theatres. As per the practice followed in Kolar, no Tamil movies should be screened.
Senior journalist K Prahladrao, A K Somshekhar, Balakrishna, Anandkumar, Anche Aswath and Suryanarayanarao representing various pro-Kannada organisations, Leaders Chalapati and Balaji, City corporation member Prasad babu, Madhusudan, theatre owners Appi, Ravi, Harikumar, DySP A Minureddy and others were present.
