Various political parties are gearing up for the elections which will be held in the month of May.
There were 25.58 lakh population as per 2001 census in Tumkur district. At present it has not yet crossed three lakh. But if one looks into the number of voters in the district it is 2,80,000, to the surprise and shock of many.
This means there are about 75 per cent voters ion the district which is hard to believe. This indicates bogus voters rampant in the district which was not taken into account seriously by any official since many years.
However, this time, the scenario is expected to change for the good.
Deputy Commissioner S R Umashankar had made an investigation in this regard and revealed that, there are more than 1,55,000 bogus voters who will be dropped and the final list of voters will be done by March 7.
Letter to Guv
On the other hand, Former Minister Sogadu Shivanna who has been observing such irregularities in the district has already written a letter regarding the bogus voting to the Governor, demanding suitable action.
Rampant in taluks
Bogus voting has been comparatively rampant in Kunigal, Huliyurudurga, Gubbi, Tiptur and Madhugiri taluks said the Deputy Commissioner.
However, the DC’s investigation and Shivanna’s letter would make an impact and would hopefully eliminate bogus voters.
Deputy Commissioner’s suspension of officials in relation to the improper revision of voters’ list at Kunigal and Huliyurudurga has been a kind of warning to many such officials, who have been supporting such irregularities in the district.
