Drinking water schemes which have been planned to take up as per the Nanjundappa report has not been supportive to the people in the taluk, said majority of the members of Zilla Panchayat and taluk panchayat.
As per the direction of the Zilla panchayat and the government, the taluk has to develop the existing water sources such as lakes, rivers, ponds and others, and then store it to meet the demands during summer.
When there is scarcity of water, the stored water has to be supplied.
Drought hit
But in regions such as Pavagada, which is always drought-hit, one cannot afford to have natural source of water and some available sources are far away from the town.
Despite that, some thousands of feet have to be dug to get water from these sources, which is very expensive and difficult too, they added. These members have demanded the government to prepare a new plan to drought-hit areas such as Pavagada to meet the demands of the people of the region.
