Co–operative Rural Economy
Pragjyotishpur, Jan. 16.
A Co-operative rural economy, based on the village community and voluntary association, has been recommended as the goal of land reforms by the Congress Steering Committee today.
In a resolution on land reforms, the Committee stated that the principles of co-operation should be applied to agriculture and village industries should be formed.
“The size of the co-operative should not be too large and should be such as to enable the members to participate in its work effectively”.
US Offers Rs 145 Cr Aid To India
Washington, Jan. 16.
The US today offered India an economic aid package of 290,000,000 dollars chiefly in loans, to assist its Second Five-Year Development Plan.
Announcing this today, the State Department said it was willing to discuss a loan programme of about $225,000,000 from the Development fund.

Hegde Offered Tarikere Seat
Chikmagalur, Jan. 16.
The district unit of the Janata Party has invited Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde to contest the Tarikere Assembly seat which was countermanded due to the death of a Congress(I) candidate.
A resolution to this effect was passed by the district unit of the Janata Party here on Thursday.
