In a move to further add to the India-China confidence building measures, the government has okayed a proposal to allow telecast of Beijing’s English channel CCTV-9. In return, the Chinese will have access to Zee TV. Sources in the Information & Broadcasting Ministry said here that China Central Television’s CCTV-9 has been given downlinking permission in India.
The Chinese authorities in return has given the green signal to a long-pending application from Zee TV seeking permission for access in that country, the sources said. The decisions coincided with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s just-concluded China visit.
“Cable operators and DTH service providers will now be able to provide the Chinese channel to viewers,” sources said.
