Supreme Court  notice to BCCI

The Supreme Court Wednesday issued notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on a petition seeking to delete ‘India’ from the name of the body as the name of the country has been denigrated due to recent controversies, reports DHNS from New Delhi.

A bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan fixed January 28 to hear the petition after the petitioner, Prince Lenin from Lucknow, sought an urgent hearing of the plea.

Lenin has also sought the court's direction to the BCCI to call off the Indian team's ongoing Australia tour, accusing the hosts of humiliating behaviour towards the visitors.

Mumbai lift Merchant title

Mumbai lifted the Vijay Merchant under-17 title by virtue of their first innings lead over Punjab in the drawn four-day final at the in Sambalpur, Orissa, on Tuesday, reports PTI from Mumbai.

Mumbai, chasing Punjab’s first innings tally of 354, replied with 438 for five wickets.

Brief scores: Punjab: 354 (Mandeep Singh 120, Pankaj Choudhary 97 n.o.; Gaurav Jathar 6-68) drew Mumbai: 438/5 (Kaustubh Pawar 75, Suryakumar Yadav 229 n.o., Ankit Revandkar 59).
