Addressing reporters here, party spokesperson Y S V Datta distributed copies of the letter KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge sent to the Urban Development Department listing changes to reserve a few ULBs for some communities.
Accordingly, Congress has compiled the list based on recommendations of local Congress leaders. For instance, the post of president of Hoskote TMC has been reserved for backward class (B) category. But local Congress leader D K Shivakumar wants it changed to SC. The list also mentions 75 ULBs, where changes in reservation has been sought.
Datta sought to know the reason for delay in finalising reservation roster. Urging the Governor to take an immediate decision, he said the guidelines laid down in 2001 should be followed.
According to Datta, the Congress - by changing reservation - plans to have its candidates occupy coveted posts in ULBs, where it doesn’t have the majority.
Meanwhile, party supremo H D Deve Gowda will start touring the State as part of election campaign, from Alangoor in Kolar district on January 18. He will cover the entire north Karnataka during the tour, scheduled to end on February 8, Mr Datta said.
